The Genetic Variants - Panel 10
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Full Text Panels 1-18

The genetic lottery is explained for three systems, blood types, Rh factor, and HLA (human leukocyte antigens). The role of HLA in organ-transplant acceptance/rejection is briefly noted. For each of these three systems, the panel notes how many different individuals could exist according to the number of known genetic variants. This is quite small for blood types, but very large for complex systems like HLA.
